Motorola Stupid Stories

Gizmodo is too right about the stupid messages advertised by the Motorola Street Stories' videos:

  • Hot asian girls can be shallow.
  • Bears hate your ringtone, as well.
  • Dogs are awful at voicemail.
  • Some people like cake.
  • Socially unstable people usually marry within one week of writing a sad song.

Apple Computer Hong Kong is giving away 3 free iPods.

I'm still wondering if it's a scam because the page is sooo ugly.

Love Wikipedia

I have always wondered why Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia written by its readers (i.e. we stupid people are welcome to contribute, even without any registration), does not become a big battlefield of flamewars.

The Wikipedia founder James Wales answers, “Love”.

In case you miss where the love is,

Question (7) Getting people involved - by Anonymous Coward
What methods have you found that work best for getting people not only involved in contributing, but also keeping them contributing to the Wiki?

Jimmy Wales:
Love. It isn't very popular in technical circles to say a lot of mushy stuff about love, but frankly it's a very very important part of what holds our project together.

I have always viewed the mission of Wikipedia to be much bigger than just creating a killer website. We're doing that of course, and having a lot of fun doing it, but a big part of what motivates us is our larger mission to affect the world in a positive way.

It is my intention to get a copy of Wikipedia to every single person on the planet in their own language. It is my intention that free textbooks from our wikibooks project will be used to revolutionize education in developing countries by radically cutting the cost of content.

Those kinds of big picture ideals make people very passionate about what we're doing. And it makes it possible for people to set aside a lot of personal differences and disputes of the kind that I talked about above, and just compromise to keep getting the work done.

I frequently counsel people who are getting frustrated about an edit war to think about someone who lives without clean drinking water, without any proper means of education, and how our work might someday help that person. It puts flamewars into some perspective, I think.

Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That's what we're doing.

Want to show your love?

You are so nice, and deserve some romance, the Love Story of Jonathon and Wiki.

Something Hong Kong, Something Restaurant

That's a very interesting newsgroup about Hong Kong restaurants. (The articles are in Chinese only.)

Great Shanghai Yap Pan Heung Restaurant

Check out this one. The newsgroup moderator "終極纖體" describes how the excellent service of Great Shanghai Yap Pan Heung Restaurant can "Save. Harbour. Love. Country." (I like this twisted translation suggested by Steven).

Prepay No More

Beware. Too personal (chorus oldcakes) stuff below.

Rock Kenneth

Don't be shy, Rock.

Had dinner with Rock (and some chorus oldcakes not worth mentioning) last night. He confirmed that the "Rock's Special Day" email I received was really from him and not a spam, as considered by everyone. Then I heard a voice,

Rejoice! My Rock, Thou Shalt Prepay No More!

Well Done, Rock!

What's "Prepay"? Go ask some Chorus Oldcakes who are almost 30. (Of course, 40 is almost 30, Michael.)

Btw, Rock is also the talented and upcoming photographer best known for using too many cameras. The banner photo of this website (named My Hand @ Karie and Calvin's Sweet Sweet Sweet Day) is his only fine work. Wonder how many cameras he will use on his own wedding.

Hey, you insensitive, don't leave yet, leave your comment and praise the Rock.

UPDATE: The banner photo is gone because I like white more, lots of white. So, let's appreciate the masterpiece here.

The Closest Thing To CrazyUPDATE: Let Baidu find the song.

FM903 is playing Katie Melua's "The Closest Thing To Crazy" like crazy, finally.

Something impressive in her own words,

Music should be performed live. It is offensive to the audience if you mime.

Subscribe Me with Bloglines

While Blogger makes writing blog pretty easy, Bloglines makes reading blogs, lots of blogs, almost easy enough (because I still have to read them myself). Bloglines describes itself as:

Bloglines is the most comprehensive, integrated service for searching, subscribing, publishing and sharing news feeds, blogs, and rich Web content. It's free and easy-to-use.

Don't worry. I'm confused too.

For me, it's just a news aggregator. It delivers me all new and unread entries from this list of too many news feeds, blogs and rich Web content that I'm interested in. Really easy-to-use, and free.

Btw, if you haven't used any news aggregator before, you better try the easier-to-use and very lovely Kinja first, which I used until I've subscribed to that too many news feeds, blogs, and whatever.

You already a happy Bloglines user? Subscribe to this blog with Bloglines using this cute button, please.

Stealing is Bad

Very Bad.

UPDATE: People are talking about Culture, Ethics and the Bible in the comments there.

I was shocked (well, i know very few people and i always think people are nice) when I saw someone tried to blame it on Lithuania the country. I drafted a response saying it's wrong to stereotype and before posting it, I read his/her words again and again, in case I misunderstood something. I also asked a friend for his opinion, in case I misunderstood something.

Then, before I posted my comment, ek has alreadly wrote a much better one. Thank you ek, now I'm really feeling better. And now I know the very bad feeling I had when I read the condescending entry was, in fact, sickening.

I'm wondering if anyone has contacted the "inspired" site like Anil and Pid has suggested. Btw, Anil has very good suggestions for a better blog world too.

Since the discussion seems going nowhere (or everywhere), i'll go elsewhere, go eat, go sleep, go watch Spidey, and go watch Spidey again :) Ah, go watch Eno's show too.

Spider-man 2 Best Moment

I know this screenshot looks funny/sexy, but it's the best scene and the movie should have ended there.

Also, go watch the Spider-Man: The Peril of Doc! Go!

Furl Power

Amy Gahran has explained how cool Furl is. And I just find out it has magic too.

Google for toby tsui

Google my name and the No.1 is my Furl archive, which has been created for just a few days! Sorry, General Manager.

No, my hobby is not googling-me-me-me. I did it to find out how this blog ranked, and it ranked nothing. It's not in Google. Keep blogging and the links will come, i guess. But the Furl thing..., never mind.

UPDATE: The General Manger is moving up and down in Google. Now I know Google can dance. (No, I don't know him personally.)

More Annoying Than a Popup

Two popups.

For a limited time only, 20beans promotes Eno's first co-directed piece "The Seven Deadly Kisses" with two popups. I know nothing about the show except it's not a 20beans' production, so it will not be THAT boring :)

UPDATE: The show is over and so are the popups.

  • It's funny and it's thrilling to watch your closest partner's work. You are also watching yourself and it's more than watching a show. More conversations should be triggered. Funny what I pictured happen only after so many efforts, so many years. Let's start 20 Beans now.

Batteries Explained, Replacement Required

Apple has a new page about batteries. (In fact, three pages, one intro, one for notebook and one for iPod.) New magic to revive my long-dead iBook batteries? No, just boring text with colorful diagrams explaining... something about batteries, i guess.

Diagram from Apple

In short, replacement required.

Mine replaced, i wish.

I Sweat and Give Up

I don't like air conditioning very much because Tiki the Penguin says "Turn the air conditioning down in summer or use a fan". I did use a fan last summer and I was happy saving the planet $$$.

But it's hot. Too hot that I'm writing this with air conditioner ON, and i feel comfortably guilty. Mindulle, where are you going?

UPDATE: The poor Tiki the Penguin seems 404 Not Found now. You may visit the Tiki in Google cache, though kind of ugly there :(
